The V International School of Ethnobiology took place in Recife, Brazil, on November 4–5, 2025, bringing together researchers, students, and professionals dedicated to advancing theoretical, methodological, and applied approaches in ethnobiology. The event was marked by intense debates, practical workshops, and a strong emphasis on fostering new generations of ethnobiologists committed to both scientific excellence and social responsibility.

During the opening ceremony, the organizing committee had the honor of announcing the recipient of the International Ethnobiology Award – Disruptive Contribution and Epistemic Justice, granted to recognize researchers from the Global South, a distinction created to recognize outstanding contributions to the field. The award aims to highlight individuals whose scientific trajectory has significantly advanced ethnobiology through innovation, leadership, and a deep commitment to ethical and intercultural dialogue between different knowledge systems.

We are proud to announce that the 2025 Ethnobiology Award was granted to Prof. Dr. Rômulo Romeu da Nóbrega Alves, co–Editor-in-Chief of Ethnobiology and Conservation. His pioneering work has shaped contemporary ethnobiology, inspiring countless researchers worldwide through his scientific rigor, mentorship, and dedication to bridging biodiversity conservation and ethnozoology.
