About the Journal
Ethnobiology and Conservation (EC) is a high-quality, open-access, peer-reviewed journal dedicated to advancing knowledge at the intersection of ethnobiology and biodiversity conservation. EC publishes original research that explores the complex relationships between humans and nature, with an emphasis on theoretical, methodological, and applied contributions that foster biodiversity conservation, sustainability, and socioecological resilience.
The journal welcomes studies in traditional ecological knowledge, human ecology, ethnoecology, ethnopharmacology, ecological anthropology, and the history and philosophy of science as they relate to biodiversity conservation. Contributions may also include research in animal and plant biology, ethology, biogeography, ecosystem management, and ethical and legal aspects of conservation.
EC invites the submission of research articles, reviews, and short reviews (including systematic reviews and perspectives), short communications, hypothesis papers (manuscripts presenting untested original hypotheses), policy briefs, primers (introductory articles providing a first entry into a field, similar to traditional dictionaries), and checklists (original research articles presenting species lists within specific social-ecological contexts). All submissions should explicitly contribute to biodiversity conservation and sustainability.
EC prioritizes studies that offer critical insights, theoretical advancements, or practical applications for biodiversity conservation. Manuscripts that are purely descriptive without a well-developed theoretical or analytical framework will not be prioritized for publication. We particularly encourage interdisciplinary approaches that integrate diverse perspectives, including those of Indigenous and local communities, in addressing contemporary conservation challenges.
As a fully open-access journal, Ethnobiology and Conservation is committed to the broad dissemination of knowledge, fostering scientific dialogue, and promoting evidence-based decision-making for a sustainable future.
