Ethnobiology and Conservation is a fully Open Access journal. All published articles are freely available for reading, downloading, and sharing immediately upon publication.
Publication Fees
Payment of publication fees is mandatory for all accepted manuscripts unless the corresponding author qualifies for a waiver or discount under the journal's Waiver Policy described below.
The publication fee is only charged after a manuscript has been accepted for publication. Authors will receive payment instructions following acceptance.
The standard publication fee is USD 400 per accepted manuscript. These fees are entirely reinvested in the maintenance, operation, and continuous improvement of the journal, supporting editorial management, manuscript processing, copyediting, publishing infrastructure, and administrative activities.
The publication fee is allocated as follows:

30% for internet and information services;

40% for editorial services, including text editing and revision;

30% for administrative costs.
Publication fees cannot be waived except through the waiver and discount mechanisms described below.
Waiver Policy
At Ethnobiology and Conservation (EC), we maintain a transparent waiver policy to support researchers who are unable to cover some or all of the publication costs. To promote equitable access to scientific publishing, authors may be eligible for automatic waivers or discounts based on the country of affiliation of the corresponding author.

Authors from the following countries are eligible for a 50% discount on publication fees:
Albania, Algeria, Antigua and Barbuda, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bolivia (Plurinational State of), Bosnia and Herzegovina, Botswana, Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, Egypt, El Salvador, Fiji, Gabon, Georgia, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Iraq, Jamaica, Jordan, West Bank and Gaza Strip, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritius, Mongolia, Montenegro, Morocco, Namibia, Nigeria, North Macedonia, Pakistan, Palau, Paraguay, Peru, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Serbia, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, Tunisia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam.In addition, authors may request an extra discount in their cover letter, accompanied by a reasonable justification. Such requests will be evaluated by the Editorial Office on a case-by-case basis.
Editorial Board Waivers
To recognize active editorial service, members of the Editorial Board are entitled to one (1) full publication fee waiver per calendar year for a manuscript on which they are an author or co-author.
Eligibility requires that the individual be actively serving on the Editorial Board at the time of manuscript submission and have fulfilled their editorial responsibilities during the corresponding year.
The waiver is non-transferable and may not be applied to more than one manuscript per year. Former Editorial Board members are not eligible for this benefit.
Reviewer Vouchers
We also value the work of our reviewers and recognize their essential contribution to maintaining the quality and integrity of the journal.
Reviewers who complete four (4) high-quality reviews within the requested deadlines will be eligible for one (1) full waiver of publication fees for a future manuscript submission to Ethnobiology and Conservation.
Reviewer waivers are personal, non-transferable, and may only be used by the reviewer who earned them. Waivers remain valid for two calendar years following the completion of the fourth qualifying review.
A maximum of one reviewer waiver may be redeemed per manuscript.
Only reviews judged by the Editorial Office to be complete, constructive, and submitted within the requested timeframe will be counted toward this benefit. The Editor-in-Chief reserves the right to determine eligibility for reviewer waivers and to verify compliance with all requirements before granting the waiver.
