Local community knowledge holds a great potential in contributing to sustainable resource management and conservation activities. To this respect, ethnobotanical data also serves its role in the discussion. For this reason, the authors choose to analyse ethnobotanical dataset from the Baltic Sea region by exploring the plant and human relationship based on three main categories: habitat characteristics, distribution in wild and plant sensitivity to human impact beyond the physical distance. The study provides empirical evidence of wide usage of so called common species which are widely distributed in the territory and rather prefer human activity. The authors highlight the co-dependency between plants and humans in the domains of medication and wild food and stress the need for integrated management strategies where local community knowledge plays part.
